Sol-Ark is a global technology company, veteran owned business, and hybrid inverter pioneer based in Plano, Texas. Since 2013, the company has been developing and deploying solar inverter solutions for projects of all varieties including residential, commercial, AC-coupled, DC-coupled, and battery-only systems.

During late winter 2025, Sol-Ark Head of Training John-Ross Cromer joined BayWa r.e. Solar Distribution (US) for an overview of the company’s commercial and industrial product line, which included insights on how Sol-Ark battery energy storage systems (BESS) are perfectly suited for installers working with small and medium-sized businesses.

In case you missed the webinar, you can watch the full recording here or review key information from the session outlined below.

Sol-Ark C&I Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

While you may be most familiar with Sol-Ark’s residential inverters and energy storage systems, the Texas-based manufacturer has also developed several turnkey BESS products for small and medium-sized businesses. Sol-Ark BESS solutions are designed to help single and multi-site organizations adopt battery-based energy resiliency, with opportunities to incorporate solar, wind, and other power sources alongside grid-supplied electricity.

Designed for seamless, reliable performance and maximum long-term savings, here are five key features of the Sol-Ark L3 Series LimitLess™ Lithium Battery Energy Storage System.

  • Increased Uptime & Reliability: Prismatic cell-powered backup for reliable electricity during grid outages, ensuring business continuity with minimal downtime.
  • Energy Cost Reduction: An integrated energy controller to automatically reduce utility electricity bills through peak shaving, demand charge management, and time-of-use (TOU) rate optimization.
  • Additional Revenue Streams: Allows commercial and industrial businesses to sell unused energy back to the grid through virtual power plant (VPP) programs, if locally available and qualified.
  • Safety and Savings Built-In: Includes aerosol fire suppression systems in the module and cabinet for extra safety and bonus savings by avoiding an unnecessary investment in additional sprinkler systems.
  • Enhanced EV Charging Deployment: Helps manage fast charging site capacity constraints with electric vehicle adoption, while unlocking new value streams from demand response participation.

Tapping into the Economic Advantages of Sol-Ark BESS

With Sol-Ark C&I batteries, users can enjoy seamless energy security, with whole-building systems or partial back-up for essential loads.

While whole-building back-up batteries may help property owners sustain full, ongoing power during prolonged outages caused by natural disasters, few businesses are likely to remain open during these events (essential services excluded). Therefore, a partial back-up can be great for installation economics, with minimal investment, greater control over ongoing electricity costs, and enough energy storage to power essential lights and loads during local outages.

In the graph below, you can see a typical commercial building’s energy usage over the course of a day, with the horizontal line separating peak loads from ordinary electricity consumption. Whenever the property consumes above-peak rates, grid electricity is more expensive (shown in blue), and a battery-only system can help effectively reduce these inflated energy costs during peak usage events. Even further, adding PV solar can help reduce additional ongoing energy expenses while replacing grid power with electricity generated on-site, either throughout the day or overnight when discharged from the battery reserve.
