In January 2025, BayWa r.e. hosted an informative webinar for solar installers to discover the power of energy storage solutions from FranklinWH. During the event, FranklinWH Regional Sales Manager David Larson and Products & Solutions Manager Tristan Cronshaw took a deep dive into the company’s flagship solution—the FranklinWH System—and fielded dozens of technical questions from installers attending virtually from all over the country.
Filled with detailed product information for your entire team, you can watch the full webinar recording here. Don’t have time to watch the whole thing? That’s okay, we’ve also outlined an overview of the session’s most important insights below.
Who is FranklinWH?
Founded in 2019 and headquartered in San Jose, California, FranklinWH is one of the fastest growing energy storage manufacturers in the United States. Today, there are over 2,000 installation partners certified to install FranklinWH AC-coupled home energy management systems nationwide.
Among many brand advantages, easy integration is one of the key selling points of FranklinWH products. FranklinWH solutions are designed to easily integrate within any energy system, including both those with and without existing solar panels. Off-grid ready and microgrid-capable, FranklinWH energy systems work with both string and microinverter PV installations, 240V 60Hz backup generators, and EV chargers, including those with bi-directional charging capabilities.

What is the FranklinWH System?
The FranklinWH System is a whole-home energy solution well-suited for residential installations, small-scale commercial systems, agrivoltaics, and essentially any other property that requires secure and sustainable access to electricity.
Every FranklinWH System consists of two primary components: the aGate intelligent energy management controller and the aPower battery. With these two components, the FranklinWH System is one of the most easily scalable home energy storage systems on the market. Incredibly, it is possible to add 15 aPower batteries per aGate.

The aGate: As the “brains” of the system, the aGate enables easy app-based energy management between solar, grid, generator, and battery power with ethernet, Wi-Fi, 4G, and Bluetooth connectivity. The aGate is also built with Smart Circuit intelligent energy controls (280A busbar) that can help property owners avoid costly main panel upgrades. Plus, it is future-proof and designed to work with every generation of FranklinWH battery.
The aPower: The aPower is the storage component of the FranklinWH System. Each aPower 2 contains 15 kWh of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry battery storage as well as a built-in inverter. Battery units can be mounted on the ground or wall, indoors and outdoors. Critically, the aPower’s black start functionality gives it a huge advantage over many non-microgrid-ready storage alternatives.
The Undeniably Sustainable Power of FranklinWH
Over the past three years, FranklinWH Systems have proven their reliability while sustainably powering properties all across the country. With a wide operational temperature range (-4°F to 122°F) and an IP 67 rating (waterproof and dustproof), FranklinWH systems are dependable, heavy-duty, and ready to withstand even extreme weather conditions.
For example, when Hurricane Ian caused two feet of flood water to rise in a Florida home, the FranklinWH System was able to safely and sustainably supply the property with electricity from the battery, solar, and limited grid resources once waters receded. You can learn more about this incredible story in this video from FranklinWH.

In this image, you can see a line on the wall where floodwaters submerged two-thirds of the FranklinWH aPower battery. The system safely supplied power to the home after the water receded.
Outside of extreme conditions, the FranklinWH System is also a reliable way to minimize ongoing electricity costs with smart energy management controls centered around local utility rate structures. In the FranklinWH App, homeowners can input local electricity rates manually or simply take a picture of their utility bill, and the system will automatically adjust its functionality to maximize ongoing savings in the Time of Use operating mode.
Recap and Looking Ahead
In short, the FranklinWH System is a reliable storage and energy management product that is safe, highly capable, and very easy to integrate within new and existing solar energy installations. As proven products with impressive warranty coverage and nationwide support, FranklinWH Systems are a great way to install more energy storage this year.
