Unirac GridFlex™

As we prepare for large-scale commercial solar to grow to an unprecedented scale in 2021, it’s more important than ever that every element of your project is supplied by a vendor with you at the core of its offering. With its “Unirac Commercial Advantage” bolstered by major product announcements and evolving support services, Unirac is ensuring that premier installers, builders, and designers have exactly such a supplier for their commercial solar racking needs.

“Unirac brings 20 years and gigawatts of experience in this space,” says Sam Veague, Commercial Transformation Leader at Unirac. “Commercial Solar consists of a wide range of applications, and with our product portfolio and dedicated Commercial Project Management team we’re pioneering ways to help ensure our C&I customers have an optimized solution to take advantage of every project opportunity.”

BayWa r.e. Solar Systems regularly invites its trusted manufacturing partners to guest blog about their exciting developments and innovative ideas in our digital magazine. Explore our complete manufacturer lineup over at our Webstore.

One of the newest additions to the Unirac product offering is its GridFlex™ flat roof system, announced just before the new year.

“We’ve heard clearly what large commercial projects need in terms of flat roof installations,” says Jonah Coles, Product Solutions Manager. “GridFlex™ is above all built for speed, with preassembled components and low part counts, and of course it’s light thanks to the grid while remaining flexible as a result of the design approach. But it’s also more secure than other grid-based systems, with clamps that contact both sides of the module frame, which takes away a point of concern. This system is ready for the most demanding scenarios.”

— Jonah Coles, Product Solutions Manager at Unirac

Coles notes that GridFlex™ also helps cut down on attachment count when needed, thanks to a structural design that optimizes load sharing through an array.

GridFlex™ joins Unirac’s ever-growing portfolio of proven flat roof systems, including its industry veteran Roofmount, with time-tested 10-degree, 5-degree, and dual-tilt options, and its EcoFoot 2+ (10 degree) and 5D (5 degree), which offer further row spacing and materials possibilities. Unirac recently also announced its Flashloc RM™ roof attachment, a no-flashing-needed solution with tremendous strength and affordability.

And because commercial doesn’t always mean flat roofs, Unirac has continued to innovate on metal roofs with MetalX, which has a unique direct connect system that creates a feather-light, easy-to-install, and ultra- cost-effective system for large sites with metal roofs, such as agricultural buildings and warehouses. Beyond the roof, Unirac has expanded applications in the ground mount space as well, releasing a line of ground screws for difficult sites.

That said, while product changes are always exciting, it’s really the Unirac Commercial Advantage umbrella that has the team cheering loudest. Unirac announced its #BetterSolarStartsHere slogan last year, a philosophy that the Commercial Advantage builds on.

“Commercial projects require a partner you can count on,” says Brandon Carrasco, Director of Customer Solutions. “You need to know you’ll have the material on time, you need to know you’ll have expert support when you need it. Each project has unique requirements and situations. You need a bench that’s always ready to get in the game. You can’t have surprises at the last second. We get it. Our whole team is organized to help you.”

In addition to its innovative Installer Sales Specialists, who will come to a job site and train your team directly on installation, Unirac also has a new team of dedicated Commercial Project Managers who work to understand the needs of developers and EPCs, not just responding to needs but also anticipating them and helping to plan. Its engineering and design-assistance crew is one of the best trained and most responsive in the industry, offering round-the-clock services and exceptional turnaround times for the inevitable questions that come up.

And as you know from reading our commercial market brief The Current, reliability and dependability is the hallmark of any manufacturing partner. Here too, Unirac shines. Throughout the pandemic, it has maintained an industry-leading turnaround time for orders, with 90 percent shipping within six days of a purchase order thanks to a major pre-pandemic push to diversify and strengthen its supply chain.

“No one else can offer all of this together in one place, from one company with a singular focus on better solar,” says Veague. “That’s the Unirac Commercial Advantage.”
